How about that! One of the BEST venues in the Ironman season! Free trailer/car parking, easy launch, nice beach, good weather, and that downswell run home! You cant beat the ride in Ventura! Kudos to the Hokuloans.
We just rounded the half way mark, with 2 more Ironman races to go. This weekend we take an adventure up to our northernmost association member club, Pale Kai in Avila Beach. I expect to see a supportive turnout for this race. I understand campsites have opened up, so if you were discouraged, nows the time to pick up the phone and reserve a site. The entire beachfront area was rennovated and should be a beautiful and exciting venue to race in. Drive safe and see you on the water! http://www.palekai.org/race.htm

Well, it started out as a very mellow, overcast day, and it pretty much stayed that way until we packed up and left for home! For a 12 mile race that we hope to get some oceanic assistance from, it was certainly a testimony to brute strength and endurance. Kudos to the top mens finishers. One-Two over the line both in the masters division- again!
Arent you guys tired of battling each other? Outrigger Team California took the gold, with about 45 sec's to rest before Lanakila pulled thru the buoys. Another one-two, but in reverse this week with the women; Lanakila over NAC up front, with Hanohano sneaking up a rung on the ladder to take home 3rd.
Complete results to be posted soon, they are done! just puttin' on line now folks!

WOW! Couldnt have asked for better conditions for our 2007 opening race of the season. A lot of bars were set this day: Race host Hanohano did an excellent job of providing food, commemorative race t-shirts and sweatshirts, cool awards,a killer raffle, game center for the kids, and keeping us on time; SCORA officials and officials-in-training did a great job in setting up the equipment and race course, inspecting canoes for compliance to safety requirements, photoing any out-of-jersey infractions (we'll soon see how well we all did with that rule); and the paddlers! setting new heights for competition as well as numbers of crews and participants! The competition continues to amaze me as clubs who were ekeing by last year make a name for themselves, as new clubs emerge, and veteran clubs continue to push themselves to new limits.
All in all is was a great day in San Diego. Mahalo, gracias, and thank you to everyone who had a hand in it.
See you in Santa Barbara next weekend.

Hello Sports Fans! By now most of you have already pulled your paddles out of the corner, and put ski's and snowboards in their place to get ready for the 2007 SCORA racing season.

Hanohano promises another great kick-off event on May 12th in San Diego on Mission Bay. If you want a little warm-up event, head out to Tempe Town Lake on April 28th and join our Arizona clubs in their Regatta.

In the meantime remember the following:

-we will be watching and recording uniform infractions! So please be sure all your teams are clad in club jerseys or rash guards;
-we have initiated a program and trained several of your teammates on becoming SCORA Officials, so the Race and Safety Committes have more eyes on water and land monitoring fair racing;
-it is imperative that you abide by all the restrictions that come forward in the race packets. no means NO! no dogs, no alcohol no smoking- NO KIDDING!

If we do not abide by the requirements set forth by the permits, we WILL NOT BE RACING in many of these awesome locations. Park Rangers will be handing out tickets, and you will be fined. Its just not worth it. So PLEASE wait till after race parties to imbibe. Enjoy the sobriety or the "high" of a great race!

See you on the water.
